01.09.2010 | Tunisian Research Institute thanks for FUGRO-HGN report about NORM / TENORM
Based on a contact during the NORM-VI conference in Marrakech (Morocco, March 2010), the Tunisian Nuclear Research Centre (CNSTN) requested FUGRO-HGN to prepare a report concerning naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) in Tunisia. That report was designed to support the efforts intended by CNSTN to investigate selected NORM-relevant facilities. Based on the experience of FUGRO-HGN obtained from several international projects, the report analysed Tunisian industry sectors and identified the most relevant sites and industrial activities, which are of concern regarding NORM or technologically enhanced NORM (TENORM). It is proven true that the methodical guidelines developed in former projects could be fairly transferred. This enabled a fast and successful preparation of the report. In a letter sent to FUGRO-HGN, Prof. Adel Trabelsi, Director General of CNSTN, expressed his gratitude for the very engaged work of FUGRO-HGN. Contact: Rainer Gellermann / Karsten Leopold |

25.07.2008 | Dr Rainer Gellermann appointed member to the Asse ad hoc working group of the Federal Environment Ministry
| For several weeks now the Asse mine close to Wolfenbüttel has been in the headlines of every medium. After the closing down of this final repository for radioactive wastes had been prepared for many years according to mining law, the contamination in parts of the mine came to the public recently and has brought about lively discussion. Against this background the Federal Environment Ministry entrusted a working group of the new Advisory Body on Radioactive Waste Management (ESK) and of the Radiation Protection Commission (SSK) with delivering an expert opinion. At short notice our staff member Dr Rainer Gellermann was appointed member of this working group. As the activities of this group are carried out in an honorary capacity, HGN would have to exempt Dr Gellermann in part from his normal duties. In spite of it, the Management of HGN has agreed to his appointment as they consider it recognition of Dr Gellermann’s competence also in the highly specific field of the final reposition of radioactive wastes. |
